After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, Christopher A. Cooper, MD, MPH, earned his medical degree from the USC School of Medicine in Columbia. He then completed his internal medicine residency at University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Tyler, Texas and at Good Shepherd Health System in Longview, Texas. During this time, he also earned a master’s degree in Public Health from the USC School of Public Health.
Dr. Cooper has experience in the diagnosis and treatment of illnesses that affect adults, as well as health promotion and disease prevention. A member of the American College of Physicians and the American Medical Association, he founded the Healthy Cities Initiative. This 501(c)(3) organization uses community partnerships to unite existing health care systems and strives to provide health and disease prevention information through health promotion and research strategies. He received the Outstanding Service Award at Good Shepherd Health System for these efforts.
