A magna cum laude graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Mitchell L. Nimmich, MD, SFHM, earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Vermont in Burlington.

Dr. Nimmich is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. A senior fellow of the Society of Hospital Medicine, he is a member of the Lexington Medical Association, the Physicians for a National Health Program and the South Carolina Medical Association. Dr. Nimmich has special interests in quality improvement and outcomes, palliative care, sepsis and bedside ultrasound.

In addition to these interests and providing inpatient care at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, South Carolina, Dr. Nimmich serves as board chair for The Free Medical Clinic in Columbia, South Carolina, and vice chief of Hospital-Based Internal Medicine at Lexington Medical Center. He is also Lexington Medical Center’s medical director for Quality Medical Outcomes, Sepsis and its Center for Best Practice. Dr. Nimmich serves on various committees at Lexington Medical Center as well, including its Quality Control Committee, Health Informatics Committee, Credentialing Committee, Epic Physician User Group Committee, Rapid Response/Code Committee and Ethics Committee. When not serving in these roles, he is an assistant professor of Medicine at the USC School of Medicine and a volunteer physician at The Free Medical Clinic.
